Is there an AI receptionist for joiners and kitchen fitters?

Yes. Ansela answers your phone in your firm’s name while you’re in the workshop or fitting. She asks what the customer wants made or fitted, whether the kitchen is delivered yet, takes the postcode, and books the measure-up into your Ansela diary. Plans start at £99 a month + VAT.

Orme Joinery, Ansela speaking. How can I help?

Caller

Hi, yeah, we’ve bought a kitchen from Howdens and need someone to fit it. Do you do that, or just the made-to-measure stuff?

Ansela

Ben fits supplied kitchens, yes. Is it delivered already, or still on order?

Caller

It’s coming on the twenty-eighth. Oh, and the worktop’s solid oak, that’s coming separate.

Ansela

Thanks. Ben likes to measure up before it arrives. What’s the postcode?

Caller

CH64 3TJ.

Ansela

CH64 3TJ. He can come Thursday at two or Friday at nine.

Caller

Thursday. Actually, can it be Friday? My partner wants to be here and she’s off Friday.

Ansela

Friday at nine, then. Can I take a name and a number for Ben?

Caller

Hamza Iqbal. 07700 900745.

Ansela

Thanks Hamza. Booked for Friday at nine to measure up, with the delivery date and the oak worktop noted for Ben.

What she does for a joiner, and what she won’t

She works from your list: supplied kitchens or your own, doors and staircases or not, the area you cover and how far ahead you’re booked.

  • Measure-ups and quote visits, booked into your diary.
  • What they want made or fitted, and when the units turn up, written up before you go.
  • “Do you hang internal doors?” and “Do you fit kitchens people have bought themselves?” answered from your own answers.
  • The customer whose worktop you’re scribing ringing about the hob, taken while the saw’s running.
  • Won’t quote from a description or take measurements over the phone. She books you in to measure up.
  • Won’t promise a lead time or a fitting date you haven’t given her. The caller’s dates go in the notes.

03

What happens when a joiner misses a call?

People shopping for a kitchen fitter or a joiner ring several, and the one who answers books the measure-up. A kitchen fit is a big job, weeks of work, so one missed call can be a lot of lost work. The phone rings while you have the router going or a worktop half scribed, and you can’t stop either.

There’s a second cost. The customer who has already bought units wants to know the fitter is booked before the delivery turns up. They won’t wait on a message.

04

What does she ask when someone rings about a kitchen or a staircase?

What you tell her to. For a kitchen, that is usually whether the units are bought and delivered or still on order, when they arrive, whether the worktop is laminate, oak or stone and who is cutting it, and the postcode. For made-to-measure work, such as fitted wardrobes, stairs or doors, she asks what it is, roughly where it goes and whether there is a drawing.

She works from your own list. If you only fit supplied kitchens, or you never touch worktops with a sink cut-out, tell her and she says so.

05

Can she book measure-ups and say how far ahead I am?

Yes. Measure-ups and survey visits go into your Ansela diary. You choose the days, and she offers those. If the workshop is full until next month, she can say so in your words and still book the measure-up, so you can fit them in.

She doesn’t take measurements over the phone and doesn’t promise a lead time or a fitting date you haven’t given her. The delivery date the caller mentions goes in the notes for you.

06

Does a joiner need plumbing or electrical sign-off on a kitchen?

That is for you and the trades you work with. Ansela gives no advice on it. If callers ask whether you do the plumbing or the electrics, put your answer in what you give her, for example that you bring in your own plumber or you only do the carpentry. She says exactly that.

For a call-out like a leak from a sink you fitted, tell her what counts as urgent and she puts those calls through to your mobile.

Where the phone usually is while the saw’s running

An empty joinery workshop seen through an open roller shutter on a rainy morning
Wednesday on the Wirral. Kettle on, shutter up, the mobile on the bench under the sawdust.

We built Ansela because we kept ringing tradespeople who couldn’t pick up, and then booking someone else. She isn’t a call centre. She answers in your name, says what you’ve told her to say, and writes down what the caller wanted.

If she gets a call wrong, forward us the recording.

08

How do you set up Ansela?

You choose a plan before your number goes live.

For joiners, carpenters and kitchen fitters: keep your current number and divert it to Ansela, or take a new UK business number for your website and cards, or use both.

  • Give her your website. She reads it and comes back with what you make and fit, your area and how far ahead you book for you to check.
  • Set your measure-up slots and try her. Pick when you’re free to measure, then have the kitchen call above with her in your browser.
  • Divert your mobile. We give you a UK number. One short code diverts your mobile to it when you don’t pick up. Another turns it off.

Questions joiners, carpenters and kitchen fitters ask

Do kitchen fitters need an answering service?

If you fit alone, the phone goes while your hands are in a unit or on a saw. She answers in your name and books the measure-up so you can ring back less often.

Can she tell callers we’re booked until next month?

Yes, if you tell her. She still takes the details and books a measure-up so you can fit them in.

Can she take measurements over the phone?

No. She takes what the job is and books you in to measure.

Will she put a customer through if it’s urgent?

Add your mobile and say what counts, like a leak from a sink you fitted. Those calls come through to you.

Do I have to change my number?

No. We give you a UK number and you divert your own to it with a short code (codes by network). Turn the divert off whenever you like.

What is a minute, and can she take two calls at once?

A minute is time she spends on the phone with callers. Starter includes 600 a month, extra minutes are 20p each up to a limit you set, and Starter takes 1 call at a time. A caller who rings while she’s busy can leave a voicemail, which doesn’t use your minutes.

Is there a contract, and what happens after the £1.99 month?

No minimum term. After the first month it carries on at your plan price plus VAT unless you cancel, which you can do from your billing page at any time.

Keep your hands on the oak. She’ll answer.
