Is there an AI receptionist for mobile mechanics?

Yes. Ansela answers in your business’s name while you’re on someone else’s drive. She takes the car, what it’s doing and exactly where it is, books the slot into your Ansela diary, and puts through the calls you’ve said you want. Plans start at £99 a month + VAT.

The flat battery that moved postcode mid-call

This is the kind of call a mobile mechanic gets before eight. She gives the wrong address first, and the note Rob gets has the right one and the clicking.

Roadside Rob Mobile Mechanics, Ansela speaking. How can I help?

Caller

Hi, yeah, my car’s dead on the drive. It clicks when I turn the key and then nothing. It was fine yesterday. Well, it was slow yesterday.

Ansela

Sorry to hear that. What’s the car, and where is it?

Caller

Vauxhall Corsa, 2015. It’s at NE3 4TG. No, wait, I stayed at my mum’s, it’s on her drive. NE3 4TJ.

Ansela

So the Corsa’s at NE3 4TJ, your mum’s. Can I take the house number?

Caller

Twenty-two. It’s the one with the caravan.

Ansela

Thanks. Rob can be there today at eleven, or tomorrow at eight.

Caller

Eleven. Will he bring a battery?

Ansela

I’ll put the clicking and the slow start in the note so he knows what to bring. Can I take your name? I’ve got this number.

Caller

Leah Robson.

02

What she does for a mobile mechanic, and what she won’t

She works from your area, your prices and your hours, and from your rules for which calls come straight to you.

  • Call-outs, services and tyre fits, booked into your diary with the postcode and the house number.
  • “Do you cover Gosforth?” and “Can you come today?” answered from your area and your diary.
  • Make, model and reg, in the note before you set off.
  • A customer whose car you looked at last week, taken as a message with what they’re ringing about.
  • Won’t diagnose over the phone or quote for a repair. She books a look or takes the details.
  • Won’t deal with a motorway breakdown. You set the rule: a caller on a motorway is told to ring 999 or their breakdown cover.

03

What happens when a mobile mechanic misses a call?

A car that won’t start doesn’t wait. The owner needs to get to work or get the kids to school, and rings the next mobile mechanic on the list. You’re usually the one who can’t answer, with a battery in one hand or a wheel nut gun in the other, on a street where you can’t stop to talk.

You also can’t ring back from a drive while you’re halfway through a job. By the time you’re free, the slot has gone to someone who picked up.

04

What does she ask someone who needs a mobile mechanic?

The make, model and reg first, then what the car is doing in the caller’s own words: clicking, slow to start, a warning light, a flat tyre. Then where it is, because that’s what matters most to you. She takes the postcode and the house number, and checks it back, since callers are often at a relative’s, or at work.

For a tyre fitter she can ask for the tyre size if the caller can read it from the sidewall. All of it goes in the note, so you know what to load before you set off. She doesn’t guess the fault or say what the repair will cost unless you’ve given her a price.

05

What happens when the caller is on a motorway?

That’s a rule you set. A common one is that anyone who says they’re on a motorway, or in a dangerous spot, is told to ring 999 or their breakdown cover, and the call ends there. You decide the wording and whether you want that call put through to your mobile as well.

She doesn’t work out whether a caller is safe, and she isn’t a recovery service. She follows the words you’ve approved.

06

Can she book call-outs by area and by slot?

Yes. You give her the postcodes you cover and the days and windows you work, and she offers slots in your Ansela diary. Leave gaps between them for driving, and she books round them. She doesn’t plan a route or connect to a map, so you still decide the order of the day.

Plans start at £99 a month + VAT: see what each plan includes. Paying a per-call service now? See how Ansela compares.

Where the phone usually is while you’re on a stranger’s drive

A white van with its side door open at the kerb of a terraced street, a battery on the van floor
Tuesday, 07:55. Side door open, spare battery on the floor, phone on the dash.

We built Ansela because we kept ringing tradespeople who couldn’t pick up, and then booking someone else. She isn’t a call centre. She answers in your name, says what you’ve told her to say, and writes down what the caller wanted.

If she gets a call wrong, forward us the recording.

08

How do you set up Ansela?

You choose a plan before your number goes live.

For mobile mechanics and tyre fitters: keep your current number and divert it to Ansela, or take a new UK business number for your website and cards, or use both.

  • Give her your website or your Facebook page. She reads it and comes back with your services, your area and your hours for you to check.
  • Pick a voice and try her. Have the Corsa call above with her yourself in your browser before she takes a real one. Change the postcode halfway.
  • Divert your mobile. We give you a UK number. One short code diverts your mobile to it when you don’t pick up. Another turns it off.

Questions mobile mechanics and tyre fitters ask

Can she put breakdowns straight through?

Yes. You tell her which calls go to your mobile and which get booked in, and she sticks to it.

Does she take the reg?

Yes. Make, model and reg go in the note, read back to the caller so you get the right car.

What does she say to a caller on a motorway?

Whatever you tell her. The usual rule is to ring 999 or their breakdown cover. It’s your wording, and she doesn’t decide what counts as unsafe.

I don’t work Sundays.

Then she doesn’t book Sundays. Take the divert off whenever you want calls straight to you.

Do I have to change my number?

No. We give you a UK number and you divert your own to it with a short code (codes by network). Turn the divert off whenever you like.

What is a minute, and can she take two calls at once?

A minute is time she spends on the phone with callers. Starter includes 600 a month, extra minutes are 20p each up to a limit you set, and Starter takes 1 call at a time. A caller who rings while she’s busy can leave a voicemail, which doesn’t use your minutes.

Is there a contract, and what happens after the £1.99 month?

No minimum term. After the first month it carries on at your plan price plus VAT unless you cancel, which you can do from your billing page at any time.

Stay with the car you’re on. She’ll book the next one.
